The Industry Awards 2019 Winners

The best of New Zealand’s hair, beauty and barbering professionals gathered in Wellington on Sunday for the annual Industry Awards. Hosted by HITO, Kitomba Salon and Spa Software and the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers (NZARH), the awards celebrated business success, exceptional training, great workplaces, HITO apprentices and creative styling.

The prestigious Apprentice of the Year title was awarded to Vienna Moore, of Clipjoint and Co Christchurch.

The judges said Vienna’s entry was well-presented and a great example of an apprentice working hard.

Vienna was chosen from these four regional winners, who also received trophies at the awards:

(Northern) Grace Wilkinson, Biba

(Northern Central) Tee Tupara, Cremebrulee Hair and Beauty

(Central) Eilish Mooney, Buoy Salon and Spa

(Southern) Vienna Moore, Clipjoint and Co

The judges also made a special mention of Ben Tuetue, from The Barber Lounge, for an outstanding entry. They said Ben was a great role model for future generations.

The Industry Trainer of the Year is awarded to an exceptional trainer of HITO apprentices. This year’s winner was Cathy Davys of Vivo, who the judges said showed a broad knowledge and passion for the industry.

 

Tee Tupara was awarded the Jasmine McBeth Memorial Scholarship, offered annually to a hairdressing apprentice that shows dedication, passion and commitment to their training and career. The judges said Tee, from Cremebrulee Hair and Beauty in Taupo, had an outstanding work ethic.

The Workplace of the Year award goes to a clinic, salon or barbershop committed to the attraction, retention and happiness of staff members and offering exceptional training to HITO apprentices. This year’s winner was Absolute Hair, a hair salon based in Waikanae.
