Q&A with Heidi Christian, Industry Assessor of the Year 2022

We spoke with HITO Industry Assessor Heidi Christian of Heidi Christian Hair, about her win at The Industry Awards 2022.

How did it feel to win Industry Assessor of the Year at The Industry Awards 2022? It felt amazing!

Can you tell us a little about your journey in the hairdressing industry? I’ve been in this crazy, beautiful industry for over 30 years now. In that time, I have travelled, trained, competed, educated, judged, mentored, and I am now a proud salon owner. It’s been a career, never just a job. I’m constantly challenged and excited by the industry. I truly believe in the quote “never stop learning.”

Why did you decide to become an Industry Assessor? It’s important to give back to the industry that has supported me throughout my career. I believe in our qualification and ensuring that the standard is met.

What advice do you have for apprentices sitting their final assessments? Practice, practice, practice!!! Trust what you know. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in the guidelines meeting – it’s the time to make sure you have a clear understanding of the expectations of the day of your assessment.

Why is being fully qualified important to you? I’m incredibly proud to be fully qualified. It represents all the hard work that goes into achieving the qualification.
