Q&A with Sarah Manning, Beauty Therapy Apprentice of the Year 2022

We spoke with Sarah Manning from Radiance Skin and Day Spa, about her Beauty Therapy journey and her win at The Industry Awards 2022.

Can you tell us about your journey in Beauty Therapy?

I wanted to become a beauty therapist so I could make people look and feel amazing! I began my career in nails, then went to train as a cosmetic tattoo artist. This led me to want to advance my skills into facial and massage, so I could offer my clientele diversity in their self-care.

What is your favourite thing about being a beauty therapist?

I am practicing what I love every day and forever challenging what I can achieve creatively. I love feeling a special connection every one of my clients. Enhancing their physical appearance, helping them feel amazing and building their confidence and self-esteem.

Why did you choose to train as an apprentice with HITO?

It is amazing to study while working in my chosen career path. I have an abundance of support and immense knowledge throughout our team of highly talented therapists. Attaining a high level of practical skill that meets industry standard shows hard work and dedication.

How did it feel to win 2022 Beauty Therapy Apprentice of the Year?

It was a huge honour to be recognized as the 2022 Beauty Therapy Apprentice of the Year, especially in a category with other incredibly talented people.

Why did you choose to enter The Industry Awards?

When I began my training, I had a developmental goal meeting with my boss Jo. I said, “I’m going to win Apprentice of the Year this year!” Totally out of my comfort zone, but it was a little personal push for myself. Just goes to show following your heart does work.

What words of wisdom or advice do you have for other beauty therapy apprentices?

MINDSET!! Positive thinking gives you confidence and with confidence you put everything you in have into your dream and see it happen! Own your skills and know the industry by constantly upskilling and keeping up with the current trends, that will keep you inspired.
